When he had heard of his 20-year-old daughter’s death back in January, it was all he could do not to give in to sheer despair. Bill Conner of Madison, Wisconsin received the news just days after his son and daughter left to vacation in Cancun, Mexico.

“On her winter break with her brother…they both were found unconscious, face down in chest deep water in the resort’s pool,” Conner wrote on his GoFundMe page. “Unfortunately, Abigail didn’t make it even after medical intervention.”

Her death inadvertently saved the lives of four other men who were recipients of her organs, one of whom received her heart. In order to increase funding for organ donation awareness, Connor decided to bike from Wisconsin to Florida to Ft. Lauderdale’s Broward Health Medical Center, which he stated “took exceptional care of my daughter and prepared her to donate her organs.”

Along the way, Bill decided to stop off in Louisiana – arriving on Father’s Day, no less – to visit the man who now has his daughter’s heart. 21-year-old Loumonth Jack Jr. received the transplant after suffering a heart attack.

In the video taken of their meeting, the two embrace for endless seconds as the family wipes tears from their eyes. Bill is then given a stethoscope and listens to the heartbeat that once belonged to his daughter, and he breaks down crying from the experience.

“Well, it’s working,” he jokes as he wipes his tears of sorrow and joy onto his sleeve.

So far, Bill Connor has raised over $19,000 during his endeavors!
