There’s always something happening in the land of opportunity and in October it gets wild. Whether you’re looking for something haunted or happy, here are a couple of adventures to take advantage of during the month of October.
Relax Waterfront in Portland
If rest and relaxation are on the to-do list, head over to Portland, Maine and chill waterfront at Harvest on the Harbor, the headquarters for foodies. The annual food and wine festival flies in award-winning chefs from across the country to flaunt their culinary skills. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to dive into samples of Maine lobster, barbecue, chocolates, beer, wine, and many other delectables all while enjoying a series of live music. The three-day festival kicks off October 17.
Have a “Brewtastic” Time in Denver
With the largest collection of homegrown brews, The Great American Beer Festival is the king of U.S. beer festivals. Beer connoisseurs gather for three days to sample one ounce portions of the over 3,800 beers.
Get in on Scary Salem
New England is scenically stunning in the fall thanks to the colorful foliage. If you swing through Salem the list of available activities are plentiful. From children’s events and Halloween dances to the Witch Museum and Haunted Happenings harbor cruise, there’s something for everyone to get into. Salem and its haunted history are sure to welcome you all month long.
Get Limitless in Kailua
If you’re up to test your limits in one of the world’s most difficult sporting events, the Hawaii Ironman World Championship is held annually in Kailua-Kona. The event begins with a dip in the waters of Hapuna Beach State Park for the 2.4 mile swim before biking 112 miles through black lava fields, rich pastures, and past ancient Hawaiian temples. The only thing between you and the finish line is the final 26.2 mile run through roads brimming with spectators. If you’re not the athletic type, there’s always space to join in simply cheering on those who are.
