President Donald Trump is embarking on an 11-day trek across Asia. This will mark the president’s first formal visit to the continent and will be the longest stay of any president in Asia in the past 25 years. His stops will include Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines. While en route, Trump plans to swing by and take part in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
The summit will be held at the five-star InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort and will host the likes of world leaders such as Russian President Vladimir Putin and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping.
The GM of InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, Juan Losada, said, “This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for us to host such an important and significant event at the resort. For months, our team has been working hard…to make sure everything is perfect.”
There is a catch regarding this particular resort that’s bound to make for quite the unique summit experience. The InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is famous for its unique decor that revolves around a very specific money theme and includes monkey heads mounted on the walls, monkey paintings in every room, a banana-themed movie theater, and a monkey-themed nightclub called Cheeky Monkey.
Bill Bensley is the U.S.-born resort architect. He designed the whole place around the douc langur monkeys whose home is in the trees surrounding the resort. “These forests are full of monkeys,” Bill shared. “They’re docile, elegant, beautiful animals and they almost never come down from the trees.”
The beautiful douc langurs are currently listed on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species. As there are less than 300 left in the wild, it is asked of all guests who choose to stay at the resort to respect the doucs and remember that, “we are the guests here.”
Here’s hoping the most peaceful and docile of endangered species can teach some of our world leaders a thing or two during their stay.
