This is an incredible find for archaeologists!
As archaeologists were excavating an area near the Great Pyramid of Giza, they stumbled across a wonderfully unexpected discovery. On the site where officials from the Old Kingdom’s Fifth Dynasty were housed, they uncovered the tomb of the priestess Hetpet.
Hetpet served the goddess of fertility, Hathor, and assisted women in childbirth. Her tomb was covered in incredibly well-preserved wall paintings. The various paintings depicted Hetpet hunting, fishing, and receiving gifts from her children.
Other areas around the tomb had also been dug up, which is prompting archaeologists to keep a close eye on the area for any more rare, historical finds. Egyptian Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani said, “We’re going to continue digging in this area and I believe that very soon we’re going to discover something.”
